Rob   Mckillip

In my 20’s and 30’s I was mostly a runner, but I also did a whole bunch of other sports. I did Ironman Wisconsin in 2013, but my extreme dislike for swimming has largely ended my triathlon “career.” I still run when I'm on travel, but I really love biking.  Even at my age, I’m still getting a bit faster.

When it comes to biking, I have a lot of bikes and I do just about every kind of bike racing. I have more bikes than I’m willing to admit. It’s been alleged that I have three fat bikes, two mountain bikes, a couple road bikes, a TT bike and a fixie. There may be other bikes, but this can’t be confirmed. I own a fat bike that is much better known than I am. You can read about it at BikeRumor.com.

Like Tara, I commute everyday by bike. My commute is short, but I’ve done it every single day (that I’m not on travel) since 2002.

I have shifted from road and TT racing to fat biking and mountain biking, although I’m really a TT guy at heart, which is why all my bikes have aero bars on them! I typically race 40-50 times a year. October and November are my off season, so I don’t participate much in cyclocross. In the winter, I do a lot of fat bike racing. Come spring and summer I shift to mountain biking, but I typically still do that on a fat bike.

My big passion has become 100 mile mountain bike races, in particular the Leadville 100 MTB. I’ve done it four times now and 2018 will be my 5th.  All have been between 10 and 11 hours, so I got the belt buckles. This year I’m hoping to be under 10 hours.

I love getting new people involved in biking and if possible racing. I’m always happy to help anyone that needs advice or just wants to go out and ride (ideally near Cedar Rapids or Leadville, CO).
My next big race(s): Chequamegon 100, Lutsen 99er and a few others, if my wife lets me.
