New for 2020!
The bike race series designed for social distancing! Join our Strava Club. Race our favorite segment, the 10 mile out & back CRANDIC Time Trial along beautiful Sutliff Rd.
Race it whenever, alone or with racers you live with. (Be safe out there!) Race it as often as you'd like. You can even race more than one category. While you're out there get a selfie we can post with results. Each month - May, June, July, and August - your best time will be culled from the leaderboards for placement in each race category. Prizes for category series leaders. |
If you race near lunch or dinner time, reward your effort with some excellent carryout food and beer from our host Big Grove Brewpub Solon.
It's fast, free, and a lot of fun. Come race your bike!
More About the Time Trial Series
First off, you're own your own out there. Follow traffic laws, be courteous to all, and practice safe social distancing. Take a mask with you just in case.
Familiarize yourself with the CRANDIC TT course. (More details below.)
You are responsible for operating Strava, but as long as it's on your performance on the segment itself will be recorded automatically. Most TT rules apply -- no drafting, no mechanical assist, etc. One big change this year is that it's okay to make a running start as there's no grumpy USAC official there to stop you (and it makes it more certain that Strava will record the segment). The course begins and ends at the intersection of Sutliff Rd NE and 140th St NE. Start and finish are marked with double orange lines. At the start you are heading east. Get a running start at it, and go!
Four and a half miles later you'll see the first of two markings: "1/2 mile to turn." The second is "1/4 mile to turn." Those will give you time to check for traffic ahead and behind you. This is very important as there is no marshal there to warn you of approaching vehicles.

Consider parking at the Cedar River Landing area just east of Sutliff Bridge. That's right in the middle of the TT course, so if you flat or have a mechanical you'll never be more than 2.5 miles from your car.
While you're out there take a selfie we can post with results. We'll miss the photos by Matt Hartman and Burne Sippy, of course, but at least a selfie is something.
After your race reward your effort with some excellent carryout food and beer from our usual host Big Grove Brewpub Solon. Tell them we miss them and hope to be back soon!

Flyer, route, & Details
"Breakaway" is a category without aero equipment. No aero bars or helmets, especially. Sometimes called Eddie Merckx, since when EM raced in the 60s and 70s they didn't have the aero equipment common today.
